Overview
You can design Klaxoon Boards so everyone can take part, including people with visual or motor disabilities. Use these best practices when you create or update a Board.
Support Visually Impaired Participants
Use Strong Color Contrast
- Use dark text on a light background, or light text on a dark background.
- Avoid low contrast combinations (for example, light yellow text on a white background).
Add More Than Color Cues
- Don’t rely on color alone to show meaning.
- Instead of “ideas in red are urgent,” create a “Urgent” text category or add a clear icon (for example, a warning symbol) next to urgent ideas.
Describe Important Images
- When an image carries key information, add a nearby text box that briefly explains it.
- Keep the description short and direct (for example, “Quarterly sales by region, Europe is the largest segment”).
Structure the Board Logically
- Arrange content so people can follow it in a clear order, such as left to right and top to bottom.
- Group related content into clearly labeled areas or frames.
Help Participants With Motor Disabilities (Keyboard Navigation)
Limit the Number of Objects
- Avoid Boards with thousands of scattered objects.
- Group ideas into defined areas, sections, or columns so people can move through them with the Tab key more easily.
Provide Clear Instructions
- Add an “Instructions” area on the Board.
-
Explain:
- How to move around the Board
- How to add or edit ideas
- Any keyboard shortcuts you recommend (for example, using Tab to move between objects)
Improve Readability for Everyone
Use Clear Fonts and Comfortable Text Size
- Keep the default fonts whenever possible.
- Use a text size that’s easy to read without heavy zooming.
Add a Clickable Summary
- On large Boards, create a “Contents” or “Summary” area near the start.
- Use text boxes as a table of contents and, if possible, add links or clear visual paths to each section.
Keep the Design Clean
- Avoid too many decorative images or GIFs that don’t add information.
- Remove elements that distract from the main flow of ideas or slow down loading.
