TL;DR
Create diagrams on your Board from shapes, sticky notes, or ready-made blocks. Use arrow anchors to add connected objects, press Enter to edit text, and adjust connectors and labels to make your diagram easy to follow - all without returning to the toolbar for each new object.
Overview
You can create process maps, flowcharts, org charts, and mind maps on a Board. Start with a shape, sticky note, or ready-made block, then use connectors and arrow anchors to extend your diagram without returning to the toolbar.
How to Create a Diagram
From a shape
- Open your Board.
- Click the Shapes icon from the toolbar.
- Choose a shape category: Basic, Flowchart, Arrows, or Various.
- Add a shape to the canvas.
- Select the shape to display its arrow anchors.
- Click an arrow anchor or drag and drop it in the direction you want to extend the diagram. It will automatically duplicate the selected shape.
OR - Choose a shape or sticky note for the next object. A preview shows where it will appear.
- Place the object. The board connects it to the original object and adjusts its placement to avoid overlaps with child objects, but not with other objects on the board.
- Start typing right after you create the object to add text. To edit it later, select it and press Enter.
-
Repeat these steps to extend your diagram.
Tip
Unlike shapes in the basic category, flowchart shapes have a solid fill by default, so you can select and move them without selecting objects behind them.
Start with a diagram block
- Click the three-dot menu in the toolbar.
- Open the Blocks layout.
- Find a diagramming starter, such as a flowchart, org chart, or mind map.
- Choose a block and add it to your Board.
- Select an object in the block and press Enter to edit its text.
-
Use the object’s arrow anchors to add connected shapes or sticky notes.
Tip
You can also browse diagram block previews in the Shapes panel 1. Click More 2, then choose the Diagramming blocks 3 from the panel on the right.
How to Add and Adjust Connectors to a Diagram Block
- Create a diagram block.
- Select an object.
- Drag a connector from the object to an empty area of the canvas.
- Release the connector where you want it to end.
-
Leave the end unattached, or use the picker to create an object at that location. Choose the same object type or a different one.
Tip
You can connect an object to itself to show a loop.
Adjust a connector
- Select the connector by clicking its line.
- Reposition its attachment point along the object’s outline.
-
Use the connector’s contextual menu to adjust the available settings.
Connectors attach to object outlines rather than selection boxes. At crossings, bridge hops help you follow each line; their appearance depends on the connectors’ stacking order.
Add a connector label
- Double-click the connector where you want to add text.
- Enter your label.
-
Move the label along the connector or position it above or below the line.
