TL;DR
Klaxoon is a collaborative platform built around the Board, an infinite digital whiteboard where people add Ideas like sticky notes. Teams work together in a secure Network and use activities such as Sessions for live workshops, Questions for polls/quizzes, Missions and Adventures for self-paced learning, and Memos for sharing information. Content can be accessed via links/codes, customized from the Template Library, and imported/exported easily. Facilitators can guide collaboration with tools like Sync Board, Timer, Dot-voting, Categories, and Connectors.

Overview
Use this glossary to get familiar with Klaxoon’s core concepts, activity types, and facilitation tools. We’ve grouped terms by how you’ll use them so you can find what you need fast.
Fundamental Concepts
Board
A Board is Klaxoon’s digital, visual, infinite whiteboard. It’s a real-time collaborative space where participants can add ideas, images, videos, drawings, and documents.
Idea
An Idea is the basic element you add to a Board (like a digital sticky note). An Idea can include text, an image, or a drawing, and you can customize it with colors and sizes.
Network
A Network is a private, secure workspace for a team, project, or department. It brings together members, content (Boards, Sessions, etc.), and discussions to support ongoing collaboration.
Types of Activities
Session
A Session is a live, facilitator-led activity that runs in real time. It helps you guide participants through a structured sequence of Klaxoon activities (like a Poll, Quiz, or Board) within a set timeframe.
Question
Question is an activity for quick group input using different formats:
- Survey: Single- or multiple-choice voting
- Word cloud: Highlights the most common submitted words
- Evaluation: 1-5 star rating
- Quiz: Single- or multiple-answer quiz with a final score
- Open-ended question: Short text responses
Common uses: Icebreakers, quick opinion checks, and knowledge validation.
Mission
A Mission is an asynchronous set of activities participants complete at their own pace (like videos, quizzes, or reading steps).
Adventure
An Adventure is an asynchronous activity that feels like a treasure hunt or escape game. Participants move through a story-driven experience by solving puzzles, answering questions, and finding clues.
Memo
A Memo is a simple page for sharing information using text, images, and videos. You can add questions to check understanding.
Survey
A Survey in Klaxoon is a questionnaire activity that lets you ask participants a series of questions and collect their responses. It can include different question types, answer choices, optional media or instructions, and settings that control whether participants can edit their answers or view results. In simple terms, it is a tool for gathering feedback, opinions, or other responses from a group.
Manage and Access Content
Template Library
The Template Library includes ready-to-use templates (Boards, Sessions, Missions, and more) created by Klaxoon and the community. You can customize any template to fit your use case.
Join an Activity
Join an activity lets participants access a shared Session, Board, or other activity - usually through an access code, direct link, or QR code.
Import, Export, and Storage
These terms cover how you bring content into Klaxoon, take results out, and where everything lives:
- Import: Add content like images, PDFs, PowerPoints, or videos to a Board or activity
- Export: Download results (for example, survey results as an Excel file, or a Board summary as a PDF or PNG)
- Storage: Content is stored securely in Klaxoon’s cloud. Data is hosted in Europe (France and Ireland) to support GDPR compliance.
Animation and facilitation features
Present
Sync Board lets the facilitator bring everyone to the same spot on the Board. When it’s on, participants see the same Board area as the facilitator, which helps you guide attention during discussions.
Interact and Manage Time
Use the Interact and manage time menu to turn your Board into an interactive session.
- Get feedback: Start Polls, Ratings, Yes/No questions, or Word Clouds to collect responses in real time.
- Make decisions: Use Dot Voting to rank ideas together, or Challenges to test knowledge.
- Keep time: Use the built-in Timer, Stopwatch, or Pause controls to keep your session on track.
Advanced Board features
Dot-Voting
Dot-voting lets the facilitator run a vote directly on a Board so participants can assign a set number of dots to the Ideas they prefer. It’s a quick way to prioritize and make decisions as a group.
Categories and Connectors
- Categories: Visual containers that group Ideas by theme
- Connectors: Lines or arrows that link Ideas to show relationships, flows, or cause and effect
Extra Fields
Dimensions are extra fields on ideas for details like names, dates, or keywords.
Set them up in Board settings → Sticky notes → Extra fields, then add labels and save. When you edit a sticky note, fill in the dimensions and send it to show them under the idea.
